2022 Carignan "Old School“

2022 Carignan "Old School“

Tasting Notes:

Old School, old vines, old world character! Light yet bold with layered aromas of allspice, raspberries and red cherry. The palate allures with pomegranate, cherry cola and lingering soft tannins.

Notes of sunshine:

(All Sunshine)

  • Fresh as your coolest friend.
  • Clean and pure, but still ready to spill the tea.
  • Both light & bright and deep & moody — it might just levitate off your tongue.
  • Think a whisper of mischief.
  • Just when you think you’ve figured it out, a hint of spice and dark berry complexity at the finish leaves you saying, "Hmmm...".

Fun facts:

(a.k.a. Why this wine might out-party you)

We politely asked this Carignan to "act its age," and it responded by Harley.
These old vines — we're talking 85+ years old! — give swagger, depth and complexity  like "how flavor usedto be made."

Imagine layers of tart raspberries, pomegranates and a light sprinkle of cabinet spice.
Those lingering soft tannins? Oh, they're with you.

Sip joyfully —and start telling nostalgic stories about back in the day...

Farm notes:

(Grapes need their beauty sleep)

After getting baked all day, our grapes settle in for some much-needed cooling off.
Thanks to brisk winds blowing up from the San Francisco Bay, these vineyards stay chill enough at night to keep the grapes happy, snappy, and packed with deep flavor drama.

These grapes are sustainably and responsibly farmed by one of the most respected 4th generation farm families in Lodi.

Who cares?
We do! And if you're drinking this, now you do too.
Happy, healthy vines make wines that are louder, prouder, and tastier.

Grape history:

(The OG Bad Boy of the Vineyards)

Carignan has been makin’ grape juice in Southern France since medieval times. It used to be a sidekick, a blending grape freshening up the big Rhone reds. But given the spotlight (and a little TLC), Carignan turns into the star: silky, sassy, deep, and a little bit rebellious.

Honestly, like finding out your quiet neighbor used to tour with a punk band.

Recipe:

Cherry Cola BBQ Sliders

(aka Tiny Burgers, Big Flavor, Massive Swagger)

🛒 Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef or plant-based magic
  • 2 T Organic Soy Sauce
  • ½ cup cherry cola (yes, actual cherry cola — the wine said it was okay)
  • 1  red onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup pomegranate seeds (tiny juicy explosions of joy)
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce (spicy preferred — the wine can handle it)
  • 2 T Organic Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Slider buns
  • Slices of sharp cheddar or organic American Cheese
  • A handful of arugula
  • Salt, pepper and a sprinkle of rebel attitude

🍳 Directions:

  1. Make It Rain Flavor: In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt,  pepper and Organic Soy Sauce, form into slider-size patties).Pro tip: Press a tiny divot into the center of each patty with your thumb — it helps them cook evenly.
  2. Sizzle Time: Cook those little beauties in a hot skillet or on the grill, about 2–3 minutes per side. Right before they're done, brush each patty with a little cherry cola (yes, really) and a spoonful of BBQ sauce with the Organic Fresh Lemon Juice added.Prepare for your kitchen to smell like smoky heaven.
  3. Fancy Onions (Optional but Worth It):While patties cook, toss the sliced onions in a little Soy on the side — sauté until soft and slightly caramelized.
  4. Stack ‘Em Up: Toast the slider buns if you're feeling fancy.Bottom bun → patty → cheddar slice or American cheese slice → pomegranate sprinkle → sassy onions → a handful of arugula → top bun.Stand back and admire your masterpiece.
  5. Pour Yourself a Glass of 2022 Carignan: No exceptions.
  6. Devour: Maybe put on a Motown playlist. Maybe invite friends over. Maybe don't. These sliders might make you a little possessive.

🎉 Why It Works:

The smoky-sweet BBQ, the pop of pomegranate, and the sassy cherry cola glaze all stand up to Carignan’s old-school vibes like they were meant to be together.
